Program Description:

CanSkate - for children who can move forward unassisted and complete a full lap around the arena with relative speed.

All skaters require is a pair of skates (hockey or figure), CSA approved helmet, long pants, gloves and/or mitts and warm clothing. Dress in layers – it will get warm! 

CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, CanSkate centers on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.

The PreCanSkate program is an un-parented class for children 4 yrs + with no skating experience. The goal of the program is to teach skaters how to get up and stand on the ice with balance, move forward, move backwards and stop. Skaters learn these skills in a fun environment which includes toys, games, bubbles and fun activities. When skaters have mastered these skills they are ready for the CanSkate program. All lessons are taught by Skate Canada certified professional coaches and are 30 mins in length to accommodate the age group.

Program Description:

The Calgary North Edge Skating Academy development ice dance program is for male and female skaters looking to increase their skills in the discipline of ice dance or skaters interested in exploring competitive ice dance. This is a skater focused, collaborative program in which all registered Skate Canada coaches in good standing are welcome to coach and participate.

Skaters will work in group lesson and private lesson format on technical elements specific to ice dance, including:

- pattern dance technique

- footwork and turns

- partnering and tracking

- hold variations

- twizzles

- freedance elements (spins & lifts)

- musicality
