STAR 1-5- figure skating program
The STAR 1-5 program is for skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 3 and would like to continue developing skating skills and technique. STAR 1-5 will introduce skaters to the sport of figure skating and its disciplines: freeskate, skills and ice dance.
- Skills: edges, turns, power and field moves.
- Freeskate: jump and spin technique as well as the introduction of programs to music.
- Ice Dance: dance steps and technique, pattern dances, timing and carriage.
Assessments – Skaters in this program will be assessed by the coach that is teaching them each discipline (freeskate, skills & ice dance). All assessments in the STAR 1-5 program will be assessed to a standard. Coaches will inform skaters and their parents/guardians when the child is ready for an assessment.
Intro to Figure Skating/STAR 1 - Prerequisite: Skaters who have completed CanSkate Stage 3. The Intro to FS/STAR 1 session is 45mins in length & offered twice a week. Skaters may skate 1 or both days. Sessions include coach-led warm up and cool down exercises and coach instructed group lessons focusing on the components of the Skate Canada STAR 1 level in skills, freeskate & dance.
STAR 2-5 - Prerequisite: Skaters must have passed the STAR 1 freeskate assessment.Session is 1hr in length & offered twice a week. Skaters may skate 1 or both days. Sessions include coach-led warm up and cool down exercises and group lessons focusing on the components of STAR 2-5 skills, freeskate & ice dance. Skaters will have free time to practice skill acquisition and run through their freeskate programs.
